What is a Sitemap?

A sitemap is an XML file that lists all the URLs of your website along with metadata about each page. It helps search engines discover, crawl, and index your content more efficiently.

Sitemap Tags Explained:

  • loc: The URL of the page (required)
  • lastmod: Last modification date of the page
  • changefreq: How frequently the page is likely to change
  • priority: Priority relative to other pages (0.0 to 1.0)

How to Submit:

  1. Upload sitemap.xml to your website root (yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml)
  2. Submit to Google Search Console
  3. Submit to Bing Webmaster Tools
  4. Reference in robots.txt: Sitemap: https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml
